Buggies were allowed onto the fairways which meant fairways were firm and well drained. This is important to us as we are retirees and mobility is not our the reception to the going-home, we were in good hands and felt very welcome. Management was keen in drawing the crowd and offered good value-for-money and attractive promotions. Tering Bay Golf & Country Club coastal setting offers beautiful ocean views as its located on a 167-hectare site overlooking the picturesque bay north of Batam. The Batam golf course is 5 minutes from Nongsapura ferry terminal or 30 minutes from Batam Center. Designed by Greg Norman, the 18 hole par-72 course at Tering Bay opened for play in 1995 and stretches to over 6,400 meters. There is a choice of four tee boxes, making it playable for golfers of all abilities. The land is generally hilly, and many holes play through rainforest land. Each hole is unique and provides different challenges. With water in play on many of the holes which create numerous risk and reward opportunities. Carrying water hazards lead to good scores. However, fall short, and penalty strokes add up fast. As with any Greg Norman-designed golf course, there are plenty of large bunkers, many of which are deep, with fine sand. Good approach shots avoid sand and create birdie opportunities. Some holes on the course can be quite hilly and being an island; wind can also play a part during a round at Tering Bay. The fifth hole is worth a mention, as the elevated tee box makes for a downhill drive. Water crosses the fairway at the typical landing spot about 180 meters from the tee. Golfers have a choice of laying up before the water or attacking it and driving the ball over the Bay might appear easy, but the Norman design catches most golfers off guard. Course conditions vary through the year and greens are kept on the relatively slow side to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. The Tering Bay clubhouse is ordinary and could do with some renovations. Golf facilities include a pro shop, grass driving range, putting green, and golf academy. Besides golf, full sauna and massage facilities are available, international dishes are served up at the restaurant, and there are a few chalets on-site for those wishing to stay at the course. Several other 4-star resorts and excellent local seafood restaurants are in the area just outside the course as Bay is one of the most reasonably priced Batam golf courses. Low cost, together with the convenient location close to the ferry terminal make Tering Bay popular with Singapore golfers coming over for day trips.

Another of the finest courses on the island & ideally situated on the North East coast of Batam Island at Nongsa lies the Tering Bay Golf & Country Club. On your arrival you will be greeted by the pleasant staff who will allocate a caddy & take care of your clubs immediately whilst you get changed in the well equipped changing rooms. The view from the clubhouse is spectacular over the rolling course down to the sea. Former number one Greg Norman designed the Tering Bay course, it is a very beautiful and playable 18 hole par 72 course set amidst hills, lakes and lush tropical greenery. Looking at the score card, especially from the white tees boxes with only 5491 meters the course seems awfully short – don’t let that, however make you overconfident. Along the way you will find out that playing this course requires concentration at all times. The par 5 second, par 4 fifth, par 5 eleventh, par 3 fifteenth and the par 4 sixteenth feature tricky water hazards. Especially on holes 5 and 15, these water hazards are coming into play from the tee box. Hole 9 is the stroke index I hole, while the closing hole on the back nine, a 400 metre uphill par 4 is the second most difficult hole on the curse. The course is the centrepiece of the Tering Bay Golf Country Club on a site of over 160 hectares overlooking the waters of north Batam. The design brief was to ensure the Tering Bay golf course would be a fair and enjoyable test for golfers of all levels as well as stern tests for the professionals. I have designed some heroic, go for it’ shots across many of the water hazards.
